Recommended Books when You’re Bored

by Devina

Since I was a kid, I had always been good friends with the librarians. They’d break some rules for me, like when it wasn’t allowed to eat in the library, they’d let me eat there during lunch while reading novels. Sometimes, they’d save up some books they thought I’d find interesting so that other kids wouldn’t check them out, and then check them out for me when I came for my every day visit.

Books were everything to me. Even a class textbook fascinated me. There were so many things new, tons of discoveries, and different worlds out there.

They were my best friends, because books held power and companionship that you would not find in people. They could provide you the comfort that no one could. And they could confront you on your mistakes and flaws in the most subtle way.

Through your own understanding. Your own choice.

So here’s a list of books I’d recommend to anyone who is dying out of boredom and is looking for something that isn’t on screen or an application on your phone. Oh, and I don’t recommend boring books. I know lengthy description of a cup of coffee is murderous. It kills you faster than a bottle of poison.

So here’s my list, and by authors whose other books I love and enjoy as well.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

The Hunger Games Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Heir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde

Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman

Child of the Dark Prophecy by T.A. Barron

The Ocean at the end of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon
