I won’t lie. I watched this movie because of Alexander Skarsgard. I loved Eric in True Blood, and when I saw the trailer for Tarzan, my heart skipped a beat.
“It’s my True Blood hero!”
He was really cool as Eric in True Blood! One of the best characters ever!
Now, we are introduced to Tarzan, or John, who resides in England with his wife Jane (Margot Robbie). He is now a popular legend, with everyone knowing where he came from and what he’d gone through.
He tries to love where he is, and embraces the name he was born with.
However, John was always fated to return to the jungle.
So when he is informed that the Congolese population is being enslaved, John agrees to go back with George Williams (Samuel L. Jackson) and tells Jane that she cannot come along. Of course, Jane cannot be told what to do and goes with John and George.
So the couple and George are enjoying their trip. Until, Leom Rom (Christoph Waltz), a Belgian soldier who is pursuing the diamonds in Congo, kidnaps Jane.
Then it is up to Tarzan to save his wife and free the prisoners.
This movie is dark. The setting, I mean. You know it’s CGI, but it still gives the chill. It takes you deep into the forest, abandoning you in the jungle, right there in front of the apes, and letting them go after you to crush your bones with their fists.
The characters are believable. I love Margot Robbie, especially in this movie. Alexander Skarsgard looks just like the cartoon Tarzan it blows me away. It’s ridiculous just how good he looks as Tarzan, and Robbie as Jane! Jackson is funny, and I am so glad he is in the movie.
Everything is so serious and dark that it’s hard to even smile. And of course, we have Jackson for that.
Some problems I find in the movie revolved around how intense it gets. There is so much anger, so much sadness from the past, and not enough laughter.
I give this movie a 6.5/10. I enjoyed it. It was fairly entertaining to the least. I’m not sure if I will watch it again.
