Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: Magizoology 101

fbwtftThe day before I saw this movie, I re opened my old friend: “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander” and revisited the world I used to call second home when I was a child.

When I went in the theatre, I was excited. And as the Harry Potter theme song was playing in the background as the screen lit up with the WB sign, I giggled.

This was childhood again.

But better.

We started the journey with shots of newspapers asking the whereabouts of Gellert Grindelwald, a famous, terrifying dark wizard who was later on surpassed by Lord Voldemort.

The reason why he went all the way there was to release a thunderbird named Frank back to the wild in Arizona. However, a niffler escaped from his suitcase and got him in a lot of trouble within minutes of his arrival in the city.

Unfortunately for Tina, she had interrupted a bigger meeting and was told to leave with Newt before she could even report his violation.

Apart from that, Jacob, the noMaj who had witnessed the magic, happened to accidentally take Newt’s suitcase by mistake, thinking it was his own. When Jacob got home, some of the creatures escaped from the suitcase, leaving Jacob traumatized and slightly injured.

Tina and Newt went to find Jacob, and due to him being able to be a witness for her later on, dragged him along in their search of the missing creatures. Tina took the men to stay at her place, where they met her beautiful sister Queenie. Queenie and Jacob ended up liking each other, and trust me, their romance was going strong in this movie.

externalLater that night, Newt took Jacob inside his suitcase, where he introduce his new friends to his creatures and informed him of how harmless they were. And after convincing Jacob to come with him, both men started hunting down the missing creatures roaming around New York.

At the same time, there was an Obscurus in the city, which had been a big concern in the ministry due to destroyed sites and disturbances it’d caused around.

When Tina brought Newt and Jacob to the ministry, they immediately suspected that Newt had brought the Obscurus to New York and demanded death penalty on him.

But who really brought the Obscurus? What would happen to Newt and Jacob?

2455I absolutely love this movie. It did not disappoint me at all. Not a tiny bit. It took me back to the world of magic that I had fallen in love with many years ago. It took me back to my childhood, and I didn’t want it to end.

We were also taught how to approach the creatures and what to do with them. If Hogwarts students had taken notes while watching this movie, they’d certainly pass their exams.

The actors were brilliant. They truly captured their roles well, and they came to life. I cared about the characters, and I wanted to know more about them.

It was also visually stunning. This was a rather fast paced movie, with a couple of slow moments when we basked in the beauty of CGI works camouflaged as magic, and it was not boring. It was as stunning as it was entertaining.

And we know what that means when audience is engaged and interested, it means good storytelling.

9/10. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them got a 9 out of 10 from me. I adore this movie. I’ll be watching it again later, just like how I’ve watched every Harry Potter movie at least 20 times.
