Movie Review: the Hitman’s Bodyguard

Boy oh boy. Did I have too much fun laughing during this movie or what?!

The Hitman’s Bodyguard came out of nowhere, and I loved it. Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson together are gold.

The story is about two enemies, a bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and a hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson), who have to work together to get Kincaid safely to a courthouse so that he can be a witness.

Kindcaid happens to be a witness to some crime that a Belarus dictator, Dukhovich had committed. Since Kincaid’s wife (Selma Hayek) is held in prison to get him to testify, the hitman decides to go along and become a witness to Dukhovich’s trial. Unfortunately, to be a witness, Kincaid has to travel from his cell to the Hague, and getting there is not easy with Dukhovich’s men around.

Initially, Bryce’s ex girlfriend Amelia Roussel (Elodie Yung) was the one in charge of making sure that Kincaid get to the Hague safely. However, her whole team got attacked by Dukhovich men and died, leaving only her and Kincaid to run. While settling in a safe house, Amelie contacted Bryce to take over the mission.

Despite claiming that he hates Roussel, Bryce ended up taking the mission and dragging Kincaid all the way to the Hague.

Then the rest was history.

Kincaid and Bryce were eager to kill each other; however, they had to work together to stay alive. In the end, bromance was formed, and these two ended up relying on each other a lot more than they thought they would.

This movie is hilarious. It was so entertaining, I laughed so hard.

The chemistry between Jackson and Reynolds was palpable. They were so good together. I did not want the movie to end. If possible, I wanted Kincaid and Bryce to go on another trip together, or have double dates, or just go on some random mission. Or something!

I did not expect it to be this entertaining.

There were plot holes, and the movie could be really loud at times. But overall, it was just a fun ride. And Selma Hayek was spot on, drop dead gorgeous, and hilarious.

It’s a harmless movie. You know the moment the movie starts that it will be a lot of fun. We all know that there is nothing bad that can happen to the main protagonists. So it’s all chill and just fun.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard is a 7/10 from me. I’d definitely watch it again, and I’d recommend it to my friends.
