The Heart Consumed by Grief

She recall seeing him observe her in the crowd,

Confirmed by the corners of her eyes which failed not to viciously admire him in return.

So why didn’t he respond when she made that first move that required a month’s courage?

Why was she the only one meant for shame’s painful whip?

She agonized over it for days before eventually thinking of him less and less with each passing admirer

But as her admiration for him withered, his was aroused to her surprise, or was it always present?

She knew she should rejoice at his sudden show of affection towards her but she couldn’t

Her lustful heart had moved on, abandoning all trifling feelings belonging to him.

All that remained was a heart consumed by grief for his tardiness.
