It’s green, y’all!!!
Samyang came with a new flavor, jjajang, and I just had to get my hands on it.
So I did.
I spotted it at a Korean food stall in the middle of nowhere, and no, that isn’t sketchy at all. Because I didn’t see this at any market before, I thought I’d give it a try and see if I’d like it as much as I loved the others.
First, if you’re not familiar with jjajangmyeon, it’s a black bean paste noodles. It’s sweet and savory, so of course when I saw “jjajang” written on this pack, I thought, “It is probably going to be sweet.”
And boy was I right.
Unlike the usual bloody red sauce, this one was dark brown, almost black, just like black bean paste. Then there was the mini fun bag of extras: dried veggies and all. Make sure you cook them with the noodles by the way.
So this version was actually good. I enjoyed it.
It was a bit sweeter than most Samyang, but that was expected given the name. And it was a lot less spicy in comparison to the others as well.
It felt a little bit like adding cheese to your Samyang, and maybe some sweet sauce on top. It was like a combination of the original Samyang bokkeummyeon and black bean paste. It was warm, a bit sweet, a bit hot, and pretty tasty.
But it wasn’t cheese and I knew it.
It was good, and I actually was sad when I finished my plate. Because I wanted more.
And before everyone asked, yes, I could feel the heat. My lips went Kylie Jenner for a bit, but it definitely didn’t go through the torture Samyang 2x Spicy put me through.
But here’s the thing, it was almost as if this spicy level was only 10% of the usual. So I’d say it’s not dangerous at all for those who can’t take spicy foods.
This was pretty good comfort food though, and I had been looking for a good jjajangmyeon instant noodles for awhile. Now, I guess I’d go for Samyang Jjajang. It’s pretty worth it.
I’d give this a 7,5/10. And would definitely get more if I could find that Korean food stall again. Totally recommend this to people who like jjajangmyeon.
