Writtenloud started out with a group of Aggies who dreamed of profiling many women and men of many countries through travels and interviews. And this is with the goal to expose the inequality around the globe.
My end goal, personally, is to someday have a book of profiles of women and men who grew up facing different problems and expectations of their gender roles.
So every week I will start posting a profile of a someone who has lived in a country of strong patriarchy, or someone who has lived in many countries and can give comparisons.
We believe that it is important for the world to know that women and men sometimes struggle in their gender roles. Not every man is happy being told, “Men should not cry.” When we are sad, we may cry. We are free to express our feelings and emotions regardless of what our sexes are. Not every woman is comfortable with, “Women should stay in the kitchen.”
And there are so much. Men are expected to be the heads of their families, and what if they do not want to be? Women are told to be obedient and submissive to their husbands, but what if they do not want to be?
If you think that you have fresh perspectives and stories from your country to share, feel free to contact me or to write me personally. I would love to get to know you!
