Phew. Suicide Squad. Alright.
So if you aren’t familiar with DC Universe, you might get a little bit confused as to who is who and why some things are the way they are. And the movie does get a bit frustrating at some points. But don’t let me discourage you from watching it if you haven’t.
Because I enjoyed it.
We meet the prisoners firstly, introduced as special cases by Waller (Viola Davis), who are about to be forced to go on a mission to save the world, in exchange of minus few years of their sentences.
And with each prisoner, we are given the background story. Deadshot is a hitman who just wants his daughter to grow up well and go to an Ivy league school. Harley Quinn used to be normal, until she met Joker and fell in love with him. After deciding to die and live for him, she became the villain that she is.
Killer Croc is just a misunderstood hybrid who became a monster after the world treated him as one. Diablo is a peaceful guy who just wants to be alone after losing people he loved. Captain Boomerang has a thing for his pink unicorn… Yeah. Those I don’t mention, probably aren’t that important or I just don’t remember their stories.
So many flashbacks are happening in this movie, that it’s just a little bit, annoying. I mean, I’m not that interested in everyone’s mind, no matter how interesting. I think it’d have been better if they had just focused on the relationships in the group, than their personal ones outside.
The witch bugs me, so much. She’s supposed to be this powerful being who can do whatever and for some unknown reason (her heart being controlled by Waller and stuff) she isn’t that cool. She’s just moving around, dancing, creeping everyone else around her. What her true drive and intention are, we never know.
She is not that scary. Or intimidating. She looks like a kid who got out of rehab and can’t stand still on her feet.
Then the final battle blows up in your face like it’s a joke. It’s so cliche that everyone knows exactly what’s going to happen the moment the squad reaches the witch’s lair. Suddenly, everyone’s working together in sync and ready to make sacrifices.
I’m confused, y’all.
There are so many plot holes, so many questions, so many stories taking place that my mind was in different boxes when I was watching this movie. But I am sure you have similar questions and thoughts, so I will spare you my long list of “why’s”.
The actors, however, did such a wonderful job. Margot Robbie, my oh my, she is the Harley Quinn. It was as if she moved out of my comic book into the screen, and I loved her performance. Will Smith as Deadshot – well, it’s Will Smith. I loved him even in ‘After Earth’ and I cried blood watching that movie.
The actors did the comic characters some justice, and for that, I love them more.

Overall this movie gets a 6/10 from me. It’s truly entertaining, but it is not enough to fix the mess that Batman vs. Superman has left us with. Don’t get me wrong, I loved this movie, and will probably watch it again. But if you look at the story telling and the portrayal of some characters, you can’t help but wonder how much better it’d be if those things were done better.
